Pray
We can do nothing of real value until we pray. Every Christian has the power
of prayer at their disposal. People equipped with the knowledge of prayer
strike terror into the heart of evil. We must first know Jesus Christ as our
personal savior and our hearts must be in tune with Him. We must pray the
prayer of the psalmist in Psalms 139:23-24,
"Search me O'God and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts; and
see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."
When we have experienced a personal relationship with God, and walk in the
way of the Lord, then we are ready to pray for others.
On the subject of praying for others, General Robert E. Lee said,
"Let there be prayer at sunup, at noonday, at sundown, at midnight-all
through the day. Let us all pray for our children, our youth, our aged, our
Pastors, our homes; let us pray for our churches." (89)
We must confess to God our personal sins and the sins of our nation, and
ask forgiveness for all the wickedness that is raging across our land.
II Chronicles 7:14, "If my people who are called by my name will humble
themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then
will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and will heal their land."
John Wesley understood the power of prayer, to obtain God's mercy when he
wrote,
"Have you any day of fasting and prayer? Storm the throne of grace and
persevere therein and mercy will come down." (90)
We must pray for our leaders and those in authority. We have some in authority
who are motivated by selfishness, humanistic thinking, and peer pressure.
We must intercede through prayer that our leaders will submit themselves to
God and once again lead our nation back to God. We must stand in the gap.
Ezekiel 22:30, "I looked for a man among them who would build up the
wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so that I would
not have to destroy it...."
Pray that our nation would reclaim those Christian principles we were founded
upon and that we will again become an example for all nations of the world.
